Gateway Casinos & Entertainment Announces Plans to Invest $26 Million in Gateway Casinos Point Edward to Rebrand as Starlight Casino

Spectacular Renovation Will Bring More Dining Options and Improved Customer Experience

POINT EDWARD, ON, June 29, 2017 /CNW/ – Gateway Casinos & Entertainment (Gateway) announced today that it will undertake a spectacular rebranding and redevelopment of Gateway Casinos Point Edward to become Starlight Casino.  With the addition of new dining and culinary options, the project will bring more job opportunities for employees and a $26 Million investment to the local economy.

“We are very excited to announce our first big redevelopment project for Southwestern Ontario,” said Tony Santo, CEO of Gateway Casinos & Entertainment. “With a spectacular $26 Million renovation, the new Starlight Casino will redefine entertainment on the riverfront with an array of dining and gaming options.”

In 2013, Gateway undertook an ambitious growth and development strategy that has seen the company become Canada’s largest gaming and entertainment company.  Central to Gateway’s success has been the development of signature casino and restaurant brands that have dramatically improved the gaming customer experience while generating important new customer segments.

Gateway’s Starlight brand, with locations in New Westminster, BC and opening soon in Edmonton, AB, is inspired by “light from the stars”.  Starlight incorporates an edgy, cosmic quality to provide a powerful, exciting, and contemporary gaming and entertainment experience that sets it uniquely apart from any other entertainment facility.  The construction of the new Starlight Casino is set to begin later this summer and open in 2018.  The property will remain open for business, with minimal disruption to employees and staff, during the renovation.

“We are excited to share details of this project with our staff and the community.  We feel the Starlight brand is perfectly suited for this region.  It will be a full-service entertainment and gaming destination that will reach beyond the boundaries of Point Edward to benefit the greater Sarnia region and surrounding communities,” said Keith Andrews, Sr. Vice President, Managing Director, Gateway Casinos & Entertainment, Ontario.

The Starlight Casino will feature a new gaming floor and multiple dining and culinary options to suit any taste including Gateway’s signature MATCH Eatery & Public House and the Buffet.  Both restaurants will include outdoor dining.

MATCH Eatery & Public House is a family-friendly restaurant offering a casual and upbeat atmosphere that is perfect for any occasion.  It a great place to enjoy “the big game”, a family celebration or a social evening with friends. Here you can enjoy creative comfort food, cold libations and exciting entertainment on a patio that boasts fabulous views of the Bluewater Bridge and St. Clair River.

The Buffet is an occasion to indulge in a feast for your senses.  Enjoy great food at exceptional value in a casual, fun and friendly setting.  Customers can taste the world with amazing theme nights featuring an array of international specialties.

Gateway is the new service provider in the Southwest Gaming Bundle and took over the businesses, operations and employees from OLG on May 9th.  The bundle includes a casino in Point Edward and slots in Woodstock (at Woodstock Raceway), London (at the Western Fair District), Clinton (at Clinton Raceway), Dresden (at Dresden Raceway) and Hanover (at Hanover Raceway).

A commitment to responsible gambling is integral to how Gateway operates.  All Gateway properties in British Columbia and Ontario hold RG Check accreditation. Together with OLG and other government partners, Gateway will continue to implement responsible gambling initiatives at all properties across Canada.
