The municipality of the town of Petrolia, "Canada's Victorian Oil Town - The Cradle that Rocked the Oil Industry," was home to the North American oil industry during the late 1800s.

Petrolia owns two industrial parks, and is a retail and service centre for the Central Lambton Area.

The Petrolia municipal offices are located in Victoria Hall, 411 Greenfield Street, Petrolia.
