Community Overview
Almost 3,200 people in more than 1,100 households call the Township of Enniskillen home. The area is about 340 square kilometers (82,000 acres) of highly productive farmland. There are two residential hamlets within the township, including Oil City and Marthaville.
Enniskillen holds an important place in history, with the discovery of oil and the establishment of North America’s first commercial oil field in Enniskillen in 1858. Even today, 150 years later, modern oil wells still pump in the area, and tourists enjoy the area’s oil history at the nearby Oil Museum of Canada located in Oil Springs.
Agriculture is the largest industry Enniskillen. The major crops grown are soybeans, wheat and corn in addition to various livestock operations and new greenhouse industry.
