Sarnia-Lambton Gains Valuable Insights from Participation in Intelligent Community Forum Top7 Conference in Taipei

Sarnia-Lambton, ON – February 9, 2017

Taipei, Taiwan A SarniaLambton delegation will soon be returning home from Taipei, Taiwan, having garnered valuable business and industry insights that accompanied the Intelligent Community Forums (ICF) Smart Cities Conference.

In an announcement made today, SarniaLambton just missed being named to the ICFs Top7. ICF Top7 intelligent communities are measured on indicators that include broadband, knowledge workforce, innovation, digital equality, sustainability, and advocacy. SarniaLambton beat out nearly 400 other communities to reach the SMART 21 stage of the competition and has plans to participate in the program again next year.

We wish to express our congratulations to the communities that have moved on to the final stage of this celebrated program and thank the ICF for the opportunity to participate,” said Lambton County Warden Bill Weber. Our community looks forward to entering a submission again in 2018.”

Through the submission process, many of Sarnia-Lambtons strengths were validated locally and garnered attention internationally,” said SarniaLambton Economic Partnership General Manager George Mallay. If nothing else, this program has been an incredible opportunity to learn from and network with some of the worlds most intelligent communities and we look forward to applying our findings when the team returns home.”

ICF will announce its Intelligent Community of the Year along with the Intelligent Community Visionary of the Year in New York City this June.

While in Taiwan, the SarniaLambton delegation was given the opportunity to visit various smart community business and municipal sites, connect with research and development organizations, identify prospects for export and partnership agreements, and visit startup tech centres.

ICF is a global network of cities and regions whose mission is to help communities use information and communications technology to create inclusive prosperity, tackle social and governance challenges and enrich their quality of life.
