The following youth or young adult entrepreneurship program is offered through the Business Enterprise Centre (BEC) of Sarnia-Lambton:
Summer Company is a program for young people who are 15-29 years of age and returning to school.
This program is administered by the Business Enterprise Centre of Sarnia-Lambton and fully funded by the Ministry of Economic Development and Growth.
The students work with their counsellors at the Business Enterprise Centre to create business plans demonstrating that their business ideas are viable. The business plans are submitted on-line for approval. If deemed to be viable, the Ministry will fund up to $1,500.00 toward each student’s start-up costs.
The BEC also provides training modules throughout the summer in addition to mentoring for each participant. If the student complies with these conditions and returns to school, an additional $1,500.00 is awarded to the student after returning to school. [Total program funding = $3,000.00]
All assets acquired and profits made are property of the student. If the student completes the program, the funding is treated as a forgivable loan. Failure to complete the program or failure to return to school reverts the funding to a repayable loan.
