1st Students Enroll in Alternative Energy Engineering Technology Program

Lambton College has taken the lead on training professional energy specialists to work in a rapidly changing energy market.

Its new three-year co-op Alternative Energy Engineering Technology program, the first program of its kind in Canada, will prepare graduates for a wealth of jobs in an economy challenged by soaring gas prices at the pumps, increasing energy costs, diminishing resources, and concern for the environment.

“Lambton College is the first College to offer this kind of program. We recognized that there will be a need for trained workforce right here in Sarnia-Lambton as industry begins to explore greener ways of doing business,” said Judith Morris, Vice President, Academic & Student Success, Lambton College. “Canada as a whole has only just begun to explore alternative sources of energy.”

Twenty-seven students enrolled in the program’s introductory year this past September. They will build a fundamental background in engineering technology and then proceed into the specific knowledge needed to function as technologists in the Photovoltaic, Wind Power, Biomass, Geothermal, and Fuel Cell and Hydrogen industries.

The program provides them with a combination of theory and application skills in both conventional and emerging energy technologies.
