March 16, 2016 – Observer Staff – Western University students are set to face off March 24 in Sarnia during the 12th annual Capstone Engineering Design Competition.
More than 70 students from the London university’s department of chemical and biochemical engineering are expected to take part in this year’s competition, hosted by the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park.
“Capstone is an opportunity for graduating students to present design projects to a panel of judges made up of local community and industry leaders,” Katherine Albion, with the research park, said in a news release.
“Learnings gathered from both students and industry experts will help to lay the foundation for future careers and growth in industry.”
Presentations by teams of students are scheduled to begin that day at 8:30 a.m., and will continue until the awards are announced at 2:50 p.m.
The event is open to the public.
Students will be competing this year in the categories of Petrochemicals, Green and Biochemical Processes, and Specialty Chemicals.
Prizes will be given for first and second place in each category.
