Century Truss to build manufacturing facility in St.Clair Township

Century Truss Company, of Brighton, Michigan, announced today it will build a $12 million, 68,000 square foot manufacturing facility on Polymoore Drive in the St.Clair Industrial Park. Primary products from the new plant will include pre-engineered wood roof and floor trusses, light gauge steel trusses, and engineered “I” joist packages.

“We selected St.Clair Township as the location for our new plant because of the availability of serviced industrial land and it’s close proximity to the American construction market,” says Chairperson Randy Bergeron at the official ground breaking ceremony. “Ninety percent of finished products will be shipped to the U.S., primarily the Detroit building market.”

Construction of the plant will begin in April and production is expected to begin by the fall. When in operation, the plant will initially employ approximately 100 people. By 2004, employment is projected to be 150.

St.Clair Township Mayor Joe Dedecker welcomed Century Truss to the local community.

“We look forward to having this state-of-the-art facility locate in our industrial park,” says Mayor Dedecker. “It reconfirms what we already know – Sarnia-Lambton is strategically located for export-oriented companies requiring direct access to the U.S. market. The entire community welcomes Century Truss and wishes them a long and prosperous future.”

Officials from St.Clair Township and the Sarnia-Lambton Office of Economic Development first began negotiating with Century Truss management in the fall of 1995. Negotiation intensified during the past eighteen months leading up to today’s ground breaking.
