Company dedicated to in-home seniors care opens in Sarnia

A company that delivers in-home care to seniors has opened its latest franchise in Sarnia.

Home Instead Senior Care owner Victoria Chalmers said their facility at 327 Wellington St. opened on June 1.

She said they’ve been servicing area clients since their London office opened 10 years ago.

“Opening up a new business in the climate of COVID is not ideal, but we just continued to see a need and continued to see clients calling us and families calling us needing care for their loved ones,” said Chalmers. “So, we decided we would just work with the situation that we have with COVID.”

She said they individualize services to their clients’ needs.

“We can do their laundry, make their bed, we can do meal preparation, we can go grocery shopping. A lot of times the grocery shopping was an outing for the clients and caregivers to do together, and that has changed as COVID has hit. It will go back to that I’m sure, but a lot of times our caregivers are just helping get all of the things they need for the day.”

She said they coordinate personal care services and assist a large number of clients with Alzheimer’s and dementia care.

“Whether that’s respite for family members just needing a little break in providing that 24-hour care for their loved ones and assistance in the washroom, maybe bathing, showering, really anything that they need to be able to thrive at home.”

Chalmers said the Sarnia site has about 15 caregivers.

“We are so excited to have a brick and mortar location in Sarnia, to be able to service our families and clients and even our caregivers with a physical presence. We wish that we could have a grand opening for our office and we will hopefully do that once things with COVID change.”
