Eco-certification given to Sarnia beach for fifth straight year

May 16, 2018 – Observer Staff – Make it five in a row.

Canatara Beach will fly a Blue Flag again for the fifth straight year, as one of 27 beaches and nine marinas across Canada given the prestigious eco-certification administered in Canada by Environmental Defence.

“Millions of tourists around the world look for a Blue Flag when choosing a beach or marina to visit. And there’s a good reason for that,” said Kelsey Scarfone, Blue Flag program manager.

“When you see a Blue Flag raised at a beach or marina, you know that it’s clean, sustainably managed and a safe place to swim.”

The symbol is managed internationally by the Foundation for Environmental Education, and flies at more than 4,000 beaches and marinas in 45 countries.
Grand Bend Beach, Grand Bend Marina and Port Franks Marina in Lambton Shores also made the list.
