Farm Innovation Awards Recognize Sarnia-Lambton Companies

Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP Maria Von Bommel was on hand when Leona Dombrowsky, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs announced the winners of the first Premier’s Awards for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence on March 30th, 2007.

Three of the thirteen regional winners were from Sarnia-Lambton, sharing a total prize of $2.5 million. The innovations were chosen for having been used on an Ontario farm; having the potential for use on a broader basis and having a positive impact on the agriculture industry.

The winners from Sarnia-Lambton were:

Ausable Produce- innovative packaging
Minten Family Farms- environmental transportation of compost material
Munro Honey- breeding and selling of bees and beekeeping equipment

George Mallay, General Manager, Economic Partnership, applauded these companies for embracing new ideas and technologies. He said, “this prize demonstrates that Sarnia-Lambton’s agriculture industry is working to be on the leading edge. This fits in well with our economic strategy to develop alternative energies and bio-materials using mostly agricultural inputs.”
