Lambton College offering Environmental Management program

July 8, 2016 – Lambton Shield

New course is open to students starting this September

Lambton College has added a brand new Environmental Management program to its online roster with registration open for fall 2016.

The Environmental Management Practices Board of Governors’ Certificate was designed to explore Canadian environmental issues within a global perspective. Students enrolled in the new program will gain a deeper understanding of the strategies, risk management techniques, and legal requirements for the assessment and management of air, water, land and waste. Students will also focus on the need for sustainable development and market-driven solutions throughout the program.

The program features a combination of theory and practical elements, allowing students to gain an appreciation of the complexity of designing environmental strategies in the presence of diverse and competing stakeholder interests. Specific chosen case studies from environmental practice and stories taken from current newspaper articles will provide further material for discussion.

Program developers say the end goal is to produce environmental practitioners who can effectively implement and manage programs directed at limiting environmental impacts and restore degraded environments. Following successful completion of the program, students will have become more familiar with sustainable management of environmental resources in an effort to balance the uses for current and future generations, while leading the change process in environmental issues.

The program is offered completely online, in partnership with Seneca College, and features a variety of interactive simulations designed to offer a practical learning experience. All of the courses are led by qualified instructors with relevant, technical backgrounds and have been carefully designed to engage students while advancing their understanding of ecological systems, environmental principles, resources, and protection. Student will acquire practical skills related to industrial waste, solid waste and hazardous waste management and measures to minimize air, soil, and water pollution.

Registration is currently open for the program, which starts September 2016.
