Pitch for bitumen upgrader in Sarnia-Lambton

Development of an estimated $10-billion bitumen upgrader refinery in Sarnia-Lambton was pitched recently in Edmonton.

Director of the Bowman Centre at the Sarnia-Lambton Research Park, Dr. Katherine Albion and Walter Petryschuk discussed the plans with a group of government, labour, business and academia representatives in a session hosted by the Alberta Federation of Labour and Unifor.

Albion says their presentation was made alongside another refinery proposal by Pacific Energy in British Columbia.

Albion says they highlighted that existing pipeline networks can be used in Lambton County to safely deliver the bitumen.

The refinery would produce ultra-low sulphur diesel, gasoline and other high-value products for the global market.
