Public and Private cooperation is needed for a $10-billion refinery to become a reality in Sarnia Lambton.
A team of former Chemical Valley executives has been pushing for a refinery that would create jobs by processing and refining Western bitumen here instead of sending the crude outside of Canada.
A study into the possibility of building it locally was officially announced yesterday at the Bowman Centre at the Western Sarnia-Lambton Research Park.
The Canadian Academy of Engineering came up with nine potential sites for bitumen upgraders country-wide, and only one, Sarnia Lambton has the necessary pipeline infrastructure currently in place
Bowman Centre associate Walter Petryschuk says industry has already contributed 130,000 to help pay for a $300,000 pre feasibility study but need senior level government to contribute as well
MPP Bob Bailey has already sent a letter to Premier Wynne, outlining the project and as well as reaching out to interim Tory leader Jim Wilson
