Sarnia-Lambton Delegation Heads to Taiwan

Sarnia-Lambton, ON – February 2, 2017

A Sarnia-Lambton delegation leaves for Taipei, Taiwan tomorrow, with the goal of being named to the Intelligent Community Forum’s (ICF) Top7. The designation is awarded by the Intelligent Community Forum (ICF), a global network of cities and regions whose mission is to help communities use information and communications technology to create inclusive prosperity, tackle social and governance challenges and enrich their quality of life.

Sarnia-Lambton was successful in reaching the SMART 21 stage of ICF’s international competition, named among the top 21 communities worldwide from a pool of nearly 400 submissions.  The SMART 21 phase of the competition will see Sarnia-Lambton compete against six other communities from Canada, five from Taiwan, four from Australia, and one each from Kazakhstan, New Zealand, Russia, the United Kingdom, and the United States.  The Intelligent Community Top7 will be announced at the Smart City Conference February 9 with the winners moving on to compete for the title of Intelligent Community of the Year, to be announced in New York City this June.

The trip to Taiwan, February 3-11, also provides the delegation opportunities to visit business and municipal sites relevant to Intelligent Community applicants, connect with research and development organizations, identify prospects for export and partnership agreements, and visit start-up tech centres.
