Phase two of a $15-million-plus, five-year, redevelopment of the London Rd. Shopping Centre is getting underway.

A $2.4-million permit was issued last month for a new 17,000 sq ft building in the existing parking lot north of Giant Tiger and Teppermans.

Rob Dawson of Elison Developments says the building will be home to as many as seven tenants.

“The first tenant is employment Ontario,” says Dawson. “The Goodwill Career Centre is relocating from our east side into the middle part of that building and then we’ll have tenants on the north and south sides of it.”

Work is expected to be complete by May 2019.

“Once that’s completed, then we will undertake demolition of the former Goodwill Career Centre and part of the old Jack Doyle’s area and there will be a new unit south of Crabby Joes and then parking and drive access to Afton Ct. through that southeast corner.”

A total of 68 building permits were issued by city hall in July with a construction value of nearly $10.7-million.
