BridgeVision Selected for Blue Water Bridge Technology Pilot

BridgeVision has been selected to test new bridge documentation technology at the Blue Water Bridge in Point Edward through the Ontario Vehicle Innovation Network’s Technology Pilot Zones program. The project is supported by the Ontario Centre of Innovation, with funding from the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario.

The pilot will evaluate a process that combines drone-based photography, LiDAR and digital twin technology to create detailed digital records of the bridge’s condition. BridgeVision will explore whether these records can help engineers compare the bridge’s condition over time, monitor corrosion and coating deterioration, and share information with bridge operators and maintenance teams.

The technology is intended to complement conventional bridge inspections. Testing it at an active international crossing will give BridgeVision an opportunity to assess how it works alongside the practical requirements of managing critical infrastructure.

The Blue Water Bridge supports the movement of millions of travellers and billions of dollars in trade each year. This pilot shows how infrastructure in Sarnia-Lambton can provide a real operating environment for Canadian companies to evaluate new technology and bring it closer to practical use.
