Gladu Eyes Federal Trade Corridor Funding

March 23, 2017 - Dave Dentinger, Blackburn News - Sarnia-Lambtons Conservative member of parliament has her eyes on a pot of money for trade corridors thats included in Wednesdays federal budget.Marilyn Gladu expects therell be stiff competition for the $31-million being allocated by the Trudeau government. She says shes already been assured by Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Amarjeet Sohi that Sarnia can apply for funding for its long planned oversized load corridor project.I have a meeting with minister Sohi, I have been speaking to him about this, says Gladu. I saw him on the way out, after the budget, just to confirm that we can compete in that fund. Although its not a huge fund thats in there, its in there. Well be going after that money.A recently completed study says spending nearly $12-million to create a dedicated corridor for the transport of oversized industrial components to Sarnia Harbour would pay for itself through job creation and increased economic activity.Road and power line modifications from the citys industrial district to an upgraded harbour would be needed. Its proposed the city of Sarnia provide $4-million over four years for the project with matching funding from both the federal and provincial governments.
