Application Now Open: Team Canada Trade Mission to Japan

Canada’s Trade Commissioner Service (TCS) is recruiting a Canadian business delegation to join the Honourable Maninder Sidhu, Minister of International Trade, for a Team Canada Trade Mission (TCTM) to Japan.

This trade mission will help Canadian exporters and innovators position themselves in the Japanese market by showcasing their capabilities and competitiveness while facilitating long-term, diversified trade and investment opportunities.

Dates: Tuesday, June 23 to Friday, June 26, 2026

Market: Tokyo, Japan

Sectors: The trade mission program will be targeted to the following sectors specifically designed for organizations operating in the following sectors:

  • agriculture and agri-food including fish and seafood
  • clean technologies and energy transition  
  • defence and security, including aerospace and advanced manufacturing
  • forestry and forest products
  • information and communication technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI)

Why participate?

Members of the Canadian business delegation will participate in:

  • networking opportunities with Minister Sidhu, senior officials and Japanese business leaders
  • on-site business briefings by Trade Commissioners, senior officials and key local industry experts
  • sector-specific site visits
  • pre-arranged business-to-business meetings, offered in priority to participating small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) operating within the trade mission sectors

Who is eligible to participate?

Eligibility criteria for Canadian SMEs

To be considered for this trade mission, Canadian SMEs must clearly demonstrate how they meet the following criteria:

Under the defence and security focus, given the particularities of the industry and strategic priorities in Japan, this TCTM caters specifically to Canadian companies that are well established, with a demonstrable track record, technology deployed and international experience, ensuring clear ability to navigate the Japanese procurement system effectively and capacity to pursue long-term engagement.

Eligibility criteria for other Canadian organizations and large businesses

To be considered for this trade mission, large businesses, trade associations and chambers of commerce must clearly demonstrate they:

  • are strategically aligned with the trade mission's eligible sectors
  • can contribute to fostering partnerships, knowledge exchange or economic development
  • have the ability to bring demonstrated value to the trade mission through expertise, resources or collaboration opportunities

Travel considerations and expenses

There is no fee to participate in the trade mission. However, participants are responsible for organizing their own travel arrangements, including all air and ground transportation to and from the airport, and making their own accommodation reservations. Programming and travel information (such as local transportation options and hotel block bookings) will be provided to confirmed participants as information becomes available.  

Funding programs

The Government of Canada, as well as individual provincial and territorial governments, offer export financing and other programs that help Canadian businesses expand internationally. Please consult the Business Benefits Finder to find programs and services that might be suitable to your needs.
