Nova Chemicals announced Wednesday it’s putting off making a decision on building a new $1-billion polyethylene plant, but will upgrade and expand its
existing plants in Sarnia-Lambton.

That includes expanding the Corunna cracker’s ethylene manufacturing capacity by 20% and upgrading the polyethylene lines at its Moore facility.

“In parallel with the planned implementation of these projects, which could represent investment exceeding $300 million, we will continue to investigate
options for a second facility,” CEO Randy Woelfel said in a press release.

That new plant could eventually be built in Sarnia-Lambton, on the U.S. Gulf Coast or elsewhere, the company said.
