Sarnia-Lambton business people have been asked for their opinion on the state of local air and rail service.
The survey, now underway, is part of an Intercity Transportation Task Force initiative to improve the area’s air and rail links. Made up of representatives from The City of Sarnia, labour, and the Chris Hadfield Airport, the Task Force was formed by the Sarnia-Lambton Chamber of Commerce Transportation Committee and the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership Board of Directors, in response to community leaders’ identification of intercity transportation as a key issue impacting local economic competitiveness.
“Input from our local business people is critical to helping us build a better case for enhanced air and rail services,” said George Mallay, General Manager of the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership. “We ask any business people that have not already done so to take a few minutes to provide their input.” The survey is available on-line at www.slep.wpengine.com until August 26th. All responses to the survey are kept confidential, and respondents are not asked for their company or their name.
Ottawa-based aviation consulting firm Jacobs Consultancy Canada Ltd. has been engaged by the Task Force to collect and analyze the survey results and assess the demand for improved air and rail service. A report is expected this fall, and will be instrumental in helping the Intercity Transportation Task Force pursue this important initiative.
In addition to the survey of business stakeholders, Jacobs Consultancy is also surveying local travel consultants and passengers at the Chris Hadfield Airport as they board and deplane. A study of SABRE travel statistics for our area will also be included in the report. SABRE Travel Network is a global distribution system (GDS) that connects travel suppliers and agents.
