Sarnia-Lambton, ON, CDA, December 02, 2010 – The National Research Council (NCR) is providing funding of $85,000 to assist in launching the new Sarnia-Lambton Industrial Alliance (SLIA).

The new alliance has hit the ground running, looking for local manufacturing, machine shop, engineering, and environmental services companies to come together to promote their products and services outside of their traditional markets. The alliance will improve the firms’ overall competitiveness, and will first focus on: expanding client bases; exporting within and outside of Canada; innovation, and working collaboratively on projects where companies can combine complementary services and strengths.

The group announced today that the funding will help develop, launch and promote an interactive website for the Sarnia-Lambton Industrial Alliance, fund educational initiatives, and assist with administrative costs.

Member companies will be able to access a portion of the NCR funding to create or enhance their own company websites.

Educational initiatives will start in 2011 with a customized web marketing session in early January, followed by an industry conference in February or March.

SLIA is co-chaired by Larry MacDonald and Mike Banovsky, with organizational assistance and project management from the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership’s David Moody.

Moody noted “We have until March 31, 2011, to use this funding, so we urge any companies wanting to join the alliance to get in touch.” Moody added that applications for funding to assist with web site upgrades are currently being accepted.

The Sarnia-Lambton Industrial Alliance is based on recommendations from the “Manufacturing, Machine Shop and Engineering Inventory and Capability Study”, which was spearheaded by the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership and also funded by the National Research Council. The report was completed earlier this year.

Interested Sarnia-Lambton manufacturing, machine shop, engineering, and environmental services companies with 500 employees or less can call David Moody at the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership at 519-332-1820.
