Arts and Drama Camp Offered this Summer

A new arts and drama camp is being offered in Sarnia-Lambton this summer.

Co-ordinator, Zinzi Walters says the camp, called Break a Leap, will offer visual arts, vocal, drama and dance in a two week session.

It will provide a balanced music program for students between the ages of seven and 14 and also offer physical activity, environmental studies and field trips, she said.

“Break a Leap! wants to implement a program that will encourage the fantasy of a child’s success and illustrate the reality of one’s dreams,” she said.

As a past arts student, Walters believes the arts are essential to, a student’s psychomotor, cognitive and social goals. Break a Leap! Not only wants to achieve those goals, but also give children the, opportunity to discover and develop their artistic talents, she said.

An open house will be held this weekend at Lambton College to allow, parents and children the opportunity to learn more about the program and meet the camp staff. The open house takes place Saturday and Sunday in room F205 from 12 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Walters is running the arts and drama camp as a summer business under the province’s Summer Company program, which helps student entrepreneurs operate businesses for the summer. The program is administered locally by the Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership.
