Dow Redefines Employee Volunteerism During Pandemic and Delivers Close to 3,000 Hours

Corunna, Ont. – December 17, 2020

When the COVID-19 pandemic caused changes to businesses, borders and individual behaviours, Dow was challenged to create meaningful volunteer experiences for employees. And Dow employees delivered.

“This year, 400 Dow Canada employees volunteered close to 3,000 hours to support non-profits, school and municipalities,” said Tyler Edgington, president of Dow Canada. “This year has been like no other, but one thing has not changed: Dow’s commitment to the well-being of the communities where our workforce and their families live. Even during the uncertain times of a global pandemic, team Dow is still here to help.”

This year, Dow’s St. Clair River site in Corunna was proud to support the following organizations: Mike Weir Foundation in support of ACCESS Open Minds Project in Sarnia-Lambton, Operation Christmas Tree, Royal Canadian Legion branch 447, St. Joseph’s Hospice, Corunna Volunteer Firefighters’ Association, United Way of Sarnia-Lambton, Captain Kidd Days, Bluewater Health Foundation, Indspire, Let’s Talk Science, Enactus and Green Learning.

To ensure employer-organized volunteer events remain a priority, Dow partners with the Families First Society in Fort Saskatchewan to employ a corporate volunteer manager. “We know that it takes a village to create healthy and strong communities – this year, that’s truer than ever,” said Jacqueline Dagneau, executive director of Families First Society. “We are grateful to partner with Dow’s volunteer manager, Alana Seymour. She helps inspire Dow employees to volunteer here, in Fort Saskatchewan, and in other company locations such as  Calgary, home to Dow Canada’s head office; Lacombe County, home to the Prentiss site; Corunna, Ontario home to the St. Clair River site; and Toronto, home to both their West Hill site and Eastern Canada Regional Sales Centre.”

Dow’s community support is focused in three areas: Developing tomorrow’s innovators by supporting science, technology, engineering and math programs; advancing sustainable solutions to drive progress toward a more circular economy; and building inclusive communities by partnering with local organizations to create more inclusive places to live and work.

“Partnering with organizations to build resilient communities in our operational areas has always been a priority for us,” said Rudy Bhola, Dow St. Clair River site leader in Corunna. “Employees dedicate their time and talents to engage for impact in the communities where we operate, and we expect to invest in our communities through volunteering, donations and sponsorship in 2021.”
