Research and Development Park’s Board of Directors Commence

The Research and Development Park’s Board of Directors held its second meeting today, where the board discussed regular business and received the first draft of the Sarnia-Lambton Campus’ Strategic Plan.

The staff Advisory Committee consisting of Ker Ferguson, Director UWO Research and Development Park, Ron Van Horne, C.A.O., County of Lambton, George Mallay, General Manager, Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership and Peter Hungerford, City of Sarnia Director of Economic Development & Corporate Planning, have been working on the draft strategic plan since receiving direction from the Board at its last meeting. They presented the document to the Board today.

“Now that the business operations are running smoothly, we can focus on the strategic plan,” said Pat Davidson, Board Member, Community Development Corporation. “The board was pleased to receive the draft document and looks forward to working with the community to further develop the plan.”

The Board reviewed the strategic plan for the first time today, discussing its content, the process for approval, timing of the adoption and release of the plan, possible public input, and how the plan can be communicated to the community. The draft plan was referred back to the staff Advisory Committee to incorporate the changes suggested by the Board. Additionally, the Advisory Committee will present a plan at the next meeting which outlines how public consultation will be obtained.

“This is another exciting step forward for the Research Park,” said Ferguson. “The strategic plan will outline the vision for the future and provide direction for the Park that is integrated with the region’s economic development initiatives.”

The next regular meeting of the Community Development Corporation will be held on June 23, 2004.
