The Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership has once again been named one of the Top Canadian Economic Development Groups for 2007-08 by Site Selection magazine.
Site Selection presented the award yesterday to Sarnia-Lambton Economic Partnership’s General Manager, George Mallay and Development Consultant, Edith Wilmot-Quigg, at the Annual Economic Development Association of Canada meeting. “…….Sarnia-Lambton’s economic momentum as a center of metals and energy expertise continues unabated, helped by the efforts of this partnership,” said Adam Bruns, Managing Editor of Site Selection.
Site Selection chooses the Top Canadian Groups based on objectives related to corporate facility development: new jobs per 10,000 residents; new investment; and new investment amount per capita. Top Groups are ranked according to their scoring in these categories and then further evaluated according to more subjective criteria, including: innovative programs; leadership; and customer service.
“While this national recognition is great news and well deserved, it likely comes as no surprise to those of us who live and work in this great community. What is of significant importance is the fact that all of Canada is becoming increasingly aware of the opportunities that exist here,” said Board Chair, Les McDermott.
Building on strengths in agriculture, petrochemicals, and automotive parts, Sarnia-Lambton is becoming a leading centre for industrial bio products and alternative energy. Over $2 Billion is being invested in local projects, including the 2007 announcement of multi-million dollar funding for Canada’s Bioindustrial Innovation Centre, located at the University of Western Ontario’s Sarnia-Lambton Research Park.
